[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Welcome to the second Bluestones Medical Compliance update. Last time we provided you with an update on keeping you compliant. We hope you found this useful.

This month we will provide you with information on NMC & HCPC checks and Revalidation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=\”custom\” border_width=\”2\” accent_color=\”#e5068c\”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

NMC Checks

The Nursing and Midwifery Council protect the public by making sure all practising nurses and midwives have the skills, knowledge, health and character to do their job safely and effectively. To do this, they require all nurses and midwives who practise in the UK to be registered with them.

The NMC state that all employers must check registration status throughout the time we employ you.

As part of framework requirements monthly NMC checks are conducted on all qualified candidates. This ensures that our candidates’ registration with the NMC remains up to date. [/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=\”1/2\”][vc_column_text]*Important information*

The NMC will contact you 60 days in advance of your fee expiry date or revalidation application date, depending on which applies that year. It is therefore important you tell them about any changes to your contact details.

If you don’t submit your fee before your expiry date, or your revalidation application before your revalidation application date, your registration will automatically lapse, and you will be unable to practise. Should you allow your registration to lapse, the only way to regain registration would be by applying for readmission. That process can take two to six weeks, depending on your circumstances. You would be unable to practise during that period.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=\”1/2\”][vc_column_text]How to pay your annual fee

The current fee for NMC renewal is set at £120.

You can pay your fee through NMC Online by:

  • annual direct debit
  • quarterly direct debit, or
  • credit or debit card

Direct debit is the easiest payment method, it also removes the risk of lapsing if your payment is late.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=\”custom\” border_width=\”2\” accent_color=\”#e5068c\”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

HCPC Checks

Similar to NMC checks, HCPC checks are conducted by Bluestones on all candidates registered with the HCPC.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=\”1/2\”][vc_column_text]Each professional registration renews at a set time. These times are the same every two years and are staggered throughout the year. The timeline for Operating Department Practitioners (ODP’s) is:

  • Renewal Open: 1st September
  • Renewal Deadline: 30th November

To renew, all registrants must complete a professional declaration and pay a renewal fee. (Payment alone is not sufficient to keep your name on the Register.)

You will need to log in to your online account using your authentication code. You will receive a reminder of your authentication code at the start of your renewal period. You will need your authentication code every time you log in to your online account.

If you have lost your authentication code, you can request that a new code is sent to you. For security reasons, this code cannot be sent by email and will be sent to you by post. Please allow at least ten working days for your new code to arrive.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=\”1/2\”][vc_column_text]It is essential that your personal details, including contact details and payment information, are kept up to date. If the HCPC have incorrect details, your renewal may not be successfully processed, and your name may be removed from the Register.

The renewal fee is £180 for two years. If you are a new UK graduate from a HCPC approved course, the fee you will pay for the first two \’professional years\’ is reduced by 50 per cent to £90.

Renewal fees can be paid in one payment or multiple payments, through a number of methods:

  • Online, when renewing your registration through your online account
  • Incrementally via direct debit
  • By cheque, money/postal order or bankers\’ draft

Revalidation

From 1 April 2016, nurses and midwives must meet revalidation requirements to maintain their registration. The new process replaces Prep and will help nurses and midwives demonstrate that they practise safely and effectively. All nurses and midwives will have to revalidate every three years when they renew their place on the register. Failure to comply with revalidation will result your registration lapsing. If this happens, the only way you can regain your registration would be by applying for readmission.

Bluestones Medical provide full guidance and support on revalidation. If you require any additional information on this please contact Tracy Lumb – Compliance and RGN Manager.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=\”1/2\”][vc_column_text]
