Bluestones Medical

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]People often ask what my role as a ‘Compliance Officer’ entails. In short, I collate documents together in order to ensure candidates can be signed off so we can start providing them with shifts, but the reality is that it is not as easy as it sounds.

My day usually starts by getting to the office early to get myself a drink and to see if I have any emails from candidates wanting to be made compliant over two (soon to be three!) offices. I currently carry out the compliance checks for the following candidates: Support Workers, Healthcare Assistants and Sterile Service technicians in Chester, all candidates for South Wales and very soon all candidates for the London office which is the new venture which I cannot wait to start working on!

Once I\’m settled in, I start collating the names of candidates who are due to have documents expire within 30 days on a spreadsheet for the Cardiff office. Candidates may need to update any of the following: their online modules, their occupational health forms, their DBS certificates, their NMC PINs or their practical training. To ensure candidates can continue working shifts, I advise them what\’s due to expire and request that they send the necessary information to me.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=\”2/3\”][vc_column_text]

When the information I need is returned promptly, and candidates can continue to work it makes both me and the candidates happy. And, it\’s one less name on my spreadsheet!

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=\”1/3\”][vc_single_image image=\”2990\” alignment=\”center\” style=\”vc_box_border\” border_color=\”om-theme-color\”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Continuing with ongoing candidates; I then must see if there are any candidates who have, unfortunately, not returned documentation and must be marked as uncompliant ☹. I request that they send the information as soon as possible as without it, Bluestones Medical will not be able to supply them with shifts. Thankfully, this doesn\’t happen very often.

The next item of the day moves on to candidates who are wishing to complete their registration with Bluestones Medical. Now, I would love nothing more than to promise candidates that they would be made compliant and be able to start working shifts within a matter of days. This is a rarity but not unheard of. All the documents required being provided at interview stage, references covering 3 years of employment being returned within hours, one reference being a clinical reference commenting on candidates’ skills; would make the job so much easier and ensure candidates can start working shifts as fast as possible.

Reality check: My day consists of chasing references and advising candidates that have not completed the registration process items that are outstanding in order that they can start picking up shifts. From one document outstanding to over ten, I want to make people compliant in order to reach my own KPIs but to also allow candidates to start working. The process can be as slow or fast and the number of candidates to contact on my spreadsheets currently stands at a massive 88 over 2 offices with new candidates being added to the number regularly after their successful interviews. It is unfortunate, but sometimes, candidates can be so on the ball with their paperwork and are only awaiting references in order to start picking up shifts. On the other hand, sometimes I wonder if my constant chasing of candidates via phone and email can be frustrating; but the sooner I receive the documentation, the sooner candidates can start working shifts ?. I have to admit, the feeling I get when I pass a candidate to Tracy to be signed off as compliant is the best part of the role (especially when she gives the nod to say I haven’t missed anything!) A candidate being made compliant also means that the numbers on my spreadsheets go down.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

About me

If you give the office a call and come through to me, you will automatically know I am not from this area. Born and raised in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, I have had several different jobs roles since entering the realm of employment, ranging from being a carer to debt collecting. My other half and I relocated to Chester in August and I have to say that I am starting to love it here.

Geographically, I am still unaware so please bear with me and if I ever ask you for the county or a spelling, I apologise. In my spare time I use the gym, take part in church activities, take pictures, take the in-laws’ dog out for a walk and I love to cook. Nowadays, it\’s mostly Slimming World meals that are a part of my culinary expertise, but I do love an experiment every now and again.

Over the next few weeks life is certainly going to get a lot more exciting for my other half and me; moving into our \’forever home\’, getting a dog of our own once we’re settled in, and making this area the place we call home.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
