An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join a valued healthcare team within a secure HMP site in Essex.
This is a rewarding role where you will play a vital part in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care, supporting patients with complex needs, and contributing to safe and effective medicines management in a unique and structured environment.
About the Role
You will be an integral part of the pharmacy and wider healthcare team, supporting the delivery of safe and effective medicines management services to patients within the prison setting.
The role offers a high level of autonomy and responsibility, with opportunities to develop your clinical skills while working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
Working in this environment provides a unique opportunity to support individuals with complex health needs, including substance misuse, mental health conditions, and medication adherence challenges.
Working Pattern
40 hours per week across a four-day working week
Shifts between 07:00 – 18:00
Rolling 8-week rota including weekend coverage
Key Responsibilities
Medicines Management & Pharmacy Services
- Support safe and effective medicines administration to patients
- Assist in delivering high-quality pharmacy services across residential wings
- Provide advice on the correct use of medications where appropriate
- Maintain accurate, clear, and timely clinical records
Patient Care & Clinical Support
- Support patients with substance misuse issues, including recognition of withdrawal symptoms
- Assist in managing patients experiencing distress or at risk of self-harm
- Provide pharmacy-related advice to patients, prison staff, and healthcare colleagues
- Contribute to tackling health inequalities within the prison population
Operational & Team Responsibilities
- Work autonomously within scope of competence
- Support implementation of pharmacy services across prison wings
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external partners
- Maintain awareness and compliance with prison security procedures
- Complete all mandatory and role-specific training requirements
Essential Requirements
- Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- NVQ Level 3, BTEC, or equivalent qualification in Pharmacy Services
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and secure environment
- All candidates must successfully complete prison vetting checks
