ARTP Accredited Spirometry Technician (Bank / Locum)
Location: Central London
Work Pattern: Ad-hoc / bank clinics
Hours: 8-hour clinic days
Clinic Flow: Approx. 1 patient every 45 minutes
Pay Rate: £15 – £18 per hour (depending on experience)
About the Opportunity
A Central London-based primary care service is seeking an experienced ARTP-accredited Spirometry Technician to support its respiratory testing provision on a flexible, ad-hoc basis.
This is a bank/locum-style opportunity, ideal for clinicians looking to supplement existing work with occasional, structured clinic sessions.
Following service review and patient feedback, the clinic model has been redesigned to allow longer appointment times and a more measured clinical pace, improving both patient experience and testing quality.
Sessions are scheduled in advance wherever possible, with occasional short-notice cover required for annual leave or sickness.
Key Working Requirements (Client Specification)
Spirometry testing ONLY (no interpretation or reporting responsibilities)
Must strictly adhere to ARTP standards and protocols
8-hour clinic day structure
Testing-focused delivery within a primary care environment
Independent clinical working required during sessions
Ad-hoc / bank arrangement (no fixed rota or guaranteed hours)
Flexibility for occasional short-notice clinic cover
Strong emphasis on patient experience over volume or speed
What You’ll Be Doing
Delivering high-quality spirometry testing in line with ARTP guidelines
Preparing patients for testing, including clear explanations and safety screening
Supporting patients to achieve accurate and reliable test performance
Ensuring equipment is correctly calibrated, maintained, and functioning correctly
Completing routine checks and escalating technical issues when required
Maintaining accurate clinical records in line with GDPR and governance standards
Providing a calm, professional, and reassuring patient experience
Working independently while ensuring smooth clinic flow within the wider team
What We’re Looking For
Essential Requirements:
Current ARTP spirometry accreditation
Proven experience performing spirometry in a clinical setting
Healthcare background (e.g. HCA, Registered Nurse, Respiratory Technician)
Strong understanding of respiratory testing procedures and patient safety
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
High attention to detail and commitment to accurate testing
Ability to work independently in a clinic environment
Desirable Experience:
Experience within primary care, respiratory clinics, or occupational health
Familiarity with electronic patient record systems – SystmOne
