Start making the small changes.

Mental health is an important aspect of overall well-being, and it is essential to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

When it comes to managing mental health in the workplace, there are several small steps that can be taken to promote a positive work/life balance and the support we offer to employee well-being is available to everyone.

Below, we will explore some of the ways in which employees can manage their mental health in the workplace.

Nurturing mental health

#1 Prioritise your self-care

It is essential to take care of yourself first, and this means prioritising self-care. This could involve setting aside time each day for exercise, meditation, or other activities that help reduce stress and promote relaxation. Prioritising self-care also means getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and staying hydrated throughout the day.  When you start to take small breaks and move about it will release endorphins, which are feel-good chemicals that boost your mood and reduce stress.

#2 Maintain a healthy work-life balance

It can be tempting to work long hours, but it is essential to maintain a healthy work-life balance. This means setting boundaries and taking breaks when needed. It also means being mindful of how much time you spend on work-related tasks and making time for hobbies, family, and friends.

#3 Stay organised

One of the biggest sources of stress in the workplace is feeling overwhelmed and disorganised. To manage this, it is essential to stay organised and manage your time effectively. This could involve creating a to-do list, prioritising tasks, and breaking down larger projects into smaller, more manageable tasks.

#4 Communicate with your manager & colleagues

Communication is key to managing mental health in the workplace. If you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed, it is important to communicate this with your manager and colleagues. They may be able to offer support or make accommodations to help reduce stress levels.

#5 Seek support

We must keep talking about and reducing the stigma around mental health and if you are struggling with mental health issues, it is important to seek support. There are many resources available to help you, from therapy and counselling to support groups and hotlines. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help if you need it.
