Job Summary
As a Prison Nurse (RGN), you will provide high-quality nursing care to patients within secure custodial settings. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while maintaining professional standards and security protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe and effective nursing care within prison healthcare settings.
- Undertake clinical assessments and develop care plans.
- Administer medications in line with policies and procedures.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and deteriorating patients.
- Support clinics including chronic disease management and health promotion.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
- Work collaboratively with prison staff and healthcare teams.
- Adhere to infection prevention, safeguarding, and security procedures.
- Promote dignity, equality, and patient wellbeing.
Essential Requirements
- Valid NMC registration.
- Minimum 6 months UK nursing experience.
- Strong clinical assessment and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and nights where required.
- Up-to-date mandatory training.
Mandatory Requirement
- Prison Clearance is essential and must be in place prior to deployment. Applications without prison clearance will not be considered.
Desirable
- Previous prison healthcare experience.
- PMVA/MAPA training.
- Experience in secure or forensic settings.
